I feel privileged to be part of King Heath’s integrative model that is designed to fully support the health and well-being of our clients. Seeking therapy is a courageous step, and I would welcome the opportunity to support you in this journey. There are many reasons one might seek this extra support, as life poses challenges for us all. My ability to build healing relationships with my clients, through respect and unconditional positive regard, is what I consider my greatest strength. I truly enjoy working with my clients, listening to their unique stories, and helping them to develop goals that lead to positive and sustainable change in their lives. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a variety of settings (non-profit agencies, crisis line, schools K-12, and private practice). I have experience working with a diverse group of clients providing both individual and group therapy, and I have appreciated the richness this has brought to my practice.
I recently moved to beautiful Bellingham from San Francisco and New Zealand to be close to my family here.
I received my B.A. in Economics and French from the University of Pennsylvania and my M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the Dominican University of California. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in both Washington and California. I am currently a Clinical Fellow of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT), the highest level of MFT licensure in a U.S. state.
Building and maintaining a relationship based on trust, respect, and safety with my clients is always the over-arching goal. My role is to listen and support you, as we work together to develop and refine goals to meet your needs. Building a plan together helps to instill hope, and is an important step towards healing and effecting positive change in your life. To support you in achieving your goals, I draw from a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models including Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Mindfulness, Strength-Based and Brief, and Strategic. I tailor my work with my clients based on their unique needs, goals, and interests.
I have extensive experience working with children and would welcome the opportunity to address the unique challenges that your child may face early in life. With children, I try to create a safe and enjoyable space for them to express their feelings and needs. I work closely with the parents to learn as much about their child's developmental, social, academic, and emotional background and what concerns they have about their child. As I practice Strength-Based Therapy, I want to know about your child's unique strengths and interests, as these will be emphasized throughout the therapy. During the initial phase of therapy with your child, I focus on establishing trust through listening and play. I also work to de-stigmatize being in therapy, as we all need help at times in our lives. Through Art and Play Therapy, I try to gently enter their world to better understand their challenges and to assess their needs. I always collaborate with the parents and child on establishing goals for therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based model, is very effective in addressing many of the issues children face including: behavioral, self-esteem, depression, and anxiety concerns. Children feel empowered knowing that they can actually "reboot" their brains to reduce negative self-thinking or maladaptive behaviors. Also, I always take an integrative approach to develop a sustainable plan for parents, which includes daily exercise, healthy nutrition, and sufficient sleep and Mindfulness techniques; as these are all vitally important to a child's mental health.
